The perimenopause is the time prior to the menopause (which is one day, 12 months after your last period). Some women, the lucky ones, breeze through it; for others it can be a long slog of a debilitating array of menopause symptoms. Broken sleep, hot sweats, brain fog, forgetfulness, itchy skin; you may feel you're losing the plot. Irritability, mood swings, anxiety, panic attacks, palpitations and a sense that you are behaving in a way that is pushing away those closest to you.
There is much discussed in the media currently about HRT, and it is being bandied about as a cure all for the perimenopause. Some women can't take HRT though, and others don't want to.
For over 2,000 years acupuncture has been helping women with the perimenopause, alongside an array of other women's health issues, and fertility. Menopause occurs because of an age related decline in Kidney energy and this is easily treated using acupuncture and the Applied Channel Theory style I practice. It is approached on an individual basis according to the signs and symptoms present, helping you thrive through this exciting time of transformation. Acupuncture is a great way of optimising women's health.
